The words you think and the pictures you make ...

When learning RTT, one of my greatest joys was being able to watch the marvelous Marisa Peer in her Masterclasses. These were transformative sessions where she would share with us all that she learned in her 3+ decades of being a hypnotherapist. While she had so much wisdom to share, there was one phrase that she would keep expressing over and over again:

The mind follows two directives: the words that you think in your head and the pictures that you make.

Having worked with Law of Attraction exercises for some years I knew that this was true, but I had never heard it expressed so clearly. We all tell ourselves stories. We review the past, sorting through memories, and we create these stories about who we are, what we stand for, what we want, and so on. These stories are not just stories, however, they are mental frameworks. When you tell youself a story a single time in your head, it's just that. When you start repeating those words about yourself over and over, over days and months and years, then what you have developed is a pattern of thought which in turn leads to a pattern of behavior.

Some of these thoughts are probably extremely familiar to you. Some of the most common ones are:

I'm not enough

I'm unworthy

I'm not smart enough

Other people are better than me at this thing I'm trying to do

I can never lose weight

I can't get myself motivated

I can't cope

... and there are hundreds more.

Much of the time these thoughts/stories/beliefs began far in your past, often in childhood. Over time, repetition, and through further life experience, they began to become deeply embeded in your mind.

The question is, then, how do I change these thoughts? It all begins with telling yourself a different story. Your past is your past and while it has certainly impacted who you are today, we can all agree that we are not the same people we were in our past. Who of us hasn't learned and grown and changed? Change and growth is the nature of being a human. In RTT, we regress clients to the source of these beliefs and thoughts; we have people examine these scenes and understand how those experiences affect them today; then we begin installing new coding (new stories and beliefs) that help transform you into the person you want to be.

Taking a look at the list above, we spin these beliefs around and help you to know:

YOU are enough

YOU are worthy

You are intelligent and creative

You have gifts to share with the world

You will reach your desired weight, with a minimum of effort on your part

You are a highly motivated individual

You have MARVELOUS coping skills

Those words you tell yourself are powerful. Your mind takes direction from them. It is time to start giving yourself new words -- tell yourself new stories -- install new beliefs. And when you do, you will see how dramatically life can improve.
